
YALA NATIONAL PARK
Yala national park was declared a wild life sanctuary and national park in 1938 . It is situated in the southeast region of the country, and lies in Southern Province and Uva Province. The park is situated in the dry semi-arid climatic region and rain is received mainly during the northeast monsoon as climate of the park is usually hot . This is the most visited second largest park in Sri Lanka.
The park consist with light forest grassy plant and highest trees combination . It has one of the highest leopard densities in the world. It is renowned as one of the best wild life destination in the world to spot these stunning cats [Panthera pardus kotiya] unique to Sri Lanka . You can also spot elephants, sloth bears , golden jackals , sandbars , spotted dear , wild boars , crocodiles , buffalos , mongooses , monkeys , reptiles with more than 200 bird species including six endemic species of Sri Lanka

BUNDALA NATIONAL PARK
Bundala is an internationally important wintering ground for migrant birds located in Southern province of Sri Lanka . During the dry season ,September to March hoards of migrant birds arrive at the park and believe it is the best time to visit .
More than 200specises of birds harbors Bundala ,out of which nearly 58 species are migratory birds.. Migrants arrive in Bundala; are Marsh and Curlew Sandpiper, Curlew and Greenshank Golden and Kentish Plover, Large and Lesser Sandplovers.. The lagoons at the park attract a great variety of aquatic birds : among them are ibis, pelicans, painted storks, Black-necked Stork,terns,gulls,sand-pipers, snipes, teals, egrets and spoonbills.
Bundala national park is home to more than 32 species of mammals including Wild Boars, Mongoose, Gray Langur Toque Macaque and shelter a small population of Elephants that can be seen depending on the season .
Bundala national park is one of its kind where the land , sea and the wetlands meet . A walk alone in the beach at sundown or while having evening snack sitting in the shore will absolutely gather an experience more than you can get in a wildlife safari
LUNUGAMWEHERA NATIONAL PARK [ YALA BLOCK V]
Lunugamwehera National park which is located in Monaragala District , Uva Province established in 1995 with the intention of protecting catchment area of Lunugamwehera reservoir and wild life of the area .The catchment area is salient to protect the water levels of downstream of Kiridi Oya and water land characteristics of Bundala national park . The park is also vital as a corridor for Elephants to interchange between Yala and Udawalawa national parks .
The park with a dry mixed crass evergreen forest characterized by several forest layers . Mainly with Weera , Palu ,Teak ,Kon and spread with vast scrubland and grass land . As the park holds rich biodiversity and favorable habitat , troop of Elephants , Water Buffalo, Sri Lankan Sambar Deer, Wild Boar, Sri Lankan Spotted Chevrotain, Grizzled Giant Squirrel, Sri Lankan Axis Deer, and Asian palm civet are some of the common among more than 40 of mammals species in the park .Lunugamwehera national park is also a home to more than 20 species of fish ,about 12 amphibians , more than 30 reptiles and nearly 200 species of birds .The reservoir and other water bodies attracted troop of water birds both migrant and endemic .Lunugamwehera national is suitable for visiting all year around .
UDAWALAWA NATIONAL PARK
This is the 6th largest animal sanctuary in Sri Lanka lies on the boundaries of wet and dry zone centering the Udawala reservoir . Primary reason to establish the park in 1972 is to protect the catchment area of the reservoir .As it is the 3rd most visited park in Sri Lanka , undoubtedly one of the best national parks to see wild Asian elephants throughout the year without seasonal variations and also an important habitat to water birds .
The habitat surrounding at the reservoir includes marshes, the Walawe river and its tributaries, forests and grasslands. Sambar deer, Axis deer, Indian Muntjac, Spotted Chevrotain, Wild Boar and Water Buffalo are among the mammal species can be seen in hear . Golden Jackal, Asian Palm Civet, Toque Macaque, Tufted Grey Langur and Indian Hare also inhabit the park. Indian bush rat and three species of mongoose are also recorded in the national park.
As Udawalawa is also popular as a good bird watching site , endemics birds such as Grey Hornbill and Jungle fowl are among resident birds. Few rare migrants can be spotted as well . A variety of water birds visit the reservoir, including cormorants, the spot-billed pelican, Asian openbill, painted stork, black-headed ibis and Eurasian spoonbill.
